Emmanuel Tennis Shuts Out North Greenville 7-0

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel College Tennis Team hosted North Greenville University today, for another conference match.

Determined to improve their conference record, the Lions kicked off doubles play, in search for an early point. On court #1, Sasaki / Grosset had minimal issues to dispatch their foes with a 6-2 win. Right after, Lara / Kimaszewski had an early break in the set and at 5-4 with a great service placement from Wilfredo Lara on first serve followed by Kornel Kimaszewski, Emmanuel clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win. Lastly, Burgos-Torres / Rodriguez had to go the distance and climb back after they saw their opponents open a 5-2 lead. With better returns, Emmanuel took the set to a tiebreaker and eventually, a 7-6 victory, to complete the clean sweep in doubles action.

In singles play, EC started firing all cylinders in from the start and a couple of retirements in the matches, helped the home team as well. Jorge Cañadas was dominating the match before his opponent retired at the end of the first set, that was taken by the Lion by 6-2 on court #4. In a very similar way, on court #2, Manav Sreekumar was ahead on the scoreboard, 6-2 2-0 before his opponent had to forfeit the match. The clinch today came from Hassan Badran on court #5, who controlled the match with his serve and forehand to dispatch his opponent by 6-1 6-4. Not too long after, on court #6, Javier Crespo, rallied back on the first set, but found little resistance after improving his level on the second, with a 7-5 6-0 victory. The last 2 matches of the day were also in favor for the home team, on court #3, the Senior, Juan Carlos Romero, played a great level today to end his match by 6-1 6-4. The toughest event of the day was on court #1, with the sophomore Wilfredo Lara, having to go the distance and getting the in only in the third set tiebreaker by 2-6 6-3 10-7.

Emmanuel will be on the road for the next match, also in conference play. On Friday, the visiting Lions will face the Chowan Hawks.
