TRAVELERS REST, SC - The women's volleyball team began conference play on Wednesday night with a match against North Greenville University. The Crusaders swept the Lions, 3-0, moving their record to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in conference.
The first set was close early on. However, with the score tied at 4 the Crusaders scored 6 consecutive points to take the lead, 10-4. NGU continued to control the momentum throughout the remainder of the set as they took it, 25-11.
The second set saw the Crusaders continue on cruise control as the Lions struggled to gather any momentum of their own. Eventually NGU won the set, 25-10.Â
The Lions eventually found their footing in the third set as they gained a four point advantage in the early going, 8-4. Emmanuel continued to set the pace as they maintained their lead for the majority of the set. However, the Crusaders starting creeping back in late. With Emmanuel leading 22-21, the Crusaders scored three straight to get to game point. The Lions scored once more but it wasn't enough as NGU took the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-0.Â
Sophomore Alaina Emminger finished with 6 kills, while senior Taylor Roberts recorded 4.Â
