MILLEDGEVILLE, GA - Women's volleyball faced Georgia College on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats defeated the Lions in four sets, 3-1, moving Emmanuel's record to 4-9.
The first set was tied at five before the Bobcats slowly built an advantage, 16-12. The Lions put together a 4-2 run to get back within two, but it wasn't enough as GC went on to take the set, 25-18.
With the Bobcats leading 4-2 early in the second, the Lions went on a six point run with senior Taylor Roberts serving. The run included kills from seniors Gabi Reagan and Aleksandra Hamuda, along with an ace from Roberts. The Bobcats rallied to tie the set, but Emmanuel followed with more runs of their own. Eventually a kill from Roberts gave the Lions the set by a comfortable margin, 25-19.
The Lions gained the lead in the third set, 11-6. However, the Bobcats proceeded to score seven straight as the Lions struggled offensively. With GC up 18-14, Emmanuel recorded another run, this time with five consecutive points to get themselves back in the set. With the Lions leading 23-22, the Bobcats scored three points to narrowly take the set, 25-23.
After the third set saw multiple runs from each team, the fourth had a different look as both sides of the court recorded side out after side out. Neither team was able to lead by more than a few points until the score was tied at 20. However, the Bobcats put up five in a row to take the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
The Lions were led by Aleksandra Hamuda, who finished with 16 kills, 4 digs, and 2 blocks. Taylor Roberts followed with 13 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs, and an ace.
Sophomore setter Gabrielle McGlamery finished with a season high 50 assists alongside 16 digs.
Next up, women's volleyball will face UNC Pembroke on Friday, October 1 at 7:00 pm.
