FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The women's basketball team hosted the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated the Lions, 58-52, moving Emmanuel's record to 3-10 overall and 3-7 in league play.
The Lions went 7-15 from the field in the first quarter while making 2 out of 3 from beyond the arc. This resulted in 18 points, one less than the Bulldogs who recorded similar stats but made an additional free throw. The pace slowed in the second quarter, but Barton remained marginally on top. By halftime the Bulldogs led by four points, 33-29.
The third quarter was the lowest scoring of the day. The Lions held the Bulldogs to 10 points, but only scored 8 themselves. Emmanuel entered the final ten minutes trailing by 8 points, 37-45. However, despite the Lions consistently taking it to the basket and scoring, they were unable to surmise a comeback as the Bulldogs got hot from the field, making shots from all over in a 6-11 effort. This resulted in the Lions falling by six points, 52-58.
Junior Jeanetta Elder put up 17 points and grabbed 6 boards. Junior Jazmin Allen recorded 13 rebounds and scored 6 points.
Next up, women's basketball will face Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday, January 25 at 5:00pm. Be sure to wear white for the big game!
