No. 7 Braves End Lions' Win Streak

PEMBROKE, NC - The Emmanuel College Men's Basketball Team traveled to Pembroke, NC, to compete against conference opponent the University of North Carolina Pembroke. The Lions fell short in their third game of the week, moving them to 11-6 (10-3 CC) and ending their 3 game win streak. 
 
The Lions started strong, leading for the first 14 minutes of the first half, while the Brave's held the lead for the remaining 5:29 of the quarter. Emmanuel shot 42.4% (14-33) from the field during the first half, compared to Pembroke's 53.3% (16-33). The Lions gained a strong edge against UNC Pembroke, with 7 offensive rebounds leading to 15 second-chance points. The bench gave a strong boost on the floor recording 20 of the team's points. Despite the Lions leading by 12 at the 12:07 mark, Pembroke would go on to outscore Emmanuel 30-15 in the remainder of the first half. Spencer Levi boosted Pembroke to the lead with 13 first half points, with 10 coming in the last 12 minutes as Pembroke began to take the lead. KJ Jones II led the Lions in first half points with 13. Despite the early lead, the Lions ended the half down 36-39. 
 
Despite leading most of the first half, Emmanuel never regained the lead in the second half, with UNC Pembroke leading all 20:00. Emmanuel shot 32.1% (9-28) from the field while Pembroke shot an impressive 59.3% (16-27). The Lions struggled to put up points from all spots on the field, shooting 18.2% (2-11) from behind the 3-point line. Pembroke outscored the Lions in the paint 24-42, which allowed the Brave's to keep a strong lead for the entire second half. The Lions worked to keep the lead below 10 until 12:21 remained in the game. However, Pembroke outscored Emmanuel 22-10 in the remaining 12 minutes of regulation. The Lions would finish the game down 21, losing 80-59. 
 
Despite the outcome of the game, some Lions still posted impressive numbers. KJ Jones II, sophomore, led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Brandon Simpson, senior, and Tyonn Stuckey, senior, with 8 points. Isaiah Foster led bench players in scoring with 5 points. Simpson led the team with 9 rebounds, followed by Jayvion Rucker, sophomore, and Foster with 5. Stuckey recorded 4 assists. Jackson Bailey, senior, led all players with 3 steals off the bench. 
 
Despite this loss, the Lions remain in second place in the Conference Carolinas standings. Next week, the Lions face off at home against Converse University on February 1st (Tuesday) at 7:00 PM in the Shaw Athletic Center.
