Murfreesboro, NC --- #8 Emmanuel College Men's Soccer took on #4 Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC for the second round of the Conference Carolinas Championship.
Emmanuel came out looking punch their ticket to the semi finals of the Conference Carolinas Championship and upset a high seed Chowan University. The first half of play would be an exciting matchup between these two teams. Emmanuel would put up 5 shots, 1 of which would be saved by the Hawks goalie, Charlie Farrar, 3 that would sail high and wide and 1 that would result in a goal for the Lions. The Trojans would put up 6 shots, two of which would be saved by Lion's goalie, Rodrigo De La Terga, 4 of which would sail high and wide and one that would result in a goal. The Hawks would come out to an early lead a just 9 minutes and 49 seconds into the first half putting them up 1-0 over the Lions. The Lions would return the favor before the half and score at 32:37. Lucas Pollacchi would score an unassisted goal. The first half would remain quiet as both teams would head into the half tied 1-1.
The Lions came out looking to score and take the lead in the second half of play. Both teams would come quiet into the second half. Chowan would put up an additional 4 shots, 2 of which Rodrigo De La Terga would make clutch saves and two that would sail high and wide. The Lions would put up an additional five shots, 3 of which Chowan would save a two that would miss wide. Going into the final minutes of the second half of play, the Lions and the Hawks would take this battle into overtime.
The first and second overtime played would result in nothing for the Lions or the Hawks. At the end of two OT, it would be determined that the deciding factor of the game would be made in penalty kicks at 110 minutes into the game.
Albert Bajrami would step up for the first PK for the Lions and it would soar past goalie, Charlie Farrar into the net. Now was the Hawks turn, they would shoot but Rodrigo De La Terga would save the day. Next up for the Lions would be none other than Lucas Pollacchi. Pollacchi already had one goal this game and looked to assist in extending the lead. He shot and he scored, putting the lions up 2-0 in PK's! Once again Chowan would take their turn and this time, it would be just out of the reach of De La Terga, putting the Hawks back into the game. Stepping up next for the Lions would be Alexander Panner. Panner knew the job he had to accomplish and he did just that, putting the Lions up 3-1 over the Hawks. Hawks would step up for their 3rd attempt but De La Terga would refuse to let any ball pass again, making a clutch save. Finally, Rodrigo De La Terga would get the opportunity to close this game out and send the Lions into the Semi Finals. He shoots and he scores! This team has really put it together when needed most. The Lions will advance to the semi finals of the Conference Carolinas Championship.
The #8 Lions will face off against #1 Converse University on November 4th at the Truist Soccer Complex at Bryan Park in Browns Summit N.C. The game is set to begin at 4:30pm.
