Morrow, GA – Emmanuel Men's Basketball traveled to Clayton State University to compete in the Clayton State Tournament. The Lions would face off against Clayton State in their second game of the tournament.
The Lions comes into this game 1-2 on the season after a tough loss in overtime against Georgia College. Clayton State comes into this game 0-4 on the season after a close loss to Newberry College in overtime. In the first half of play, the game would be neck and neck. Kevlin Jones (10pts),
Jarrett Boyd (5pts), Chris Dees (3pts),
Kendall Latney (8pts) and Robert Ruesca (2pts) would all find the bucket to make the score Lions 28, Clayton State 30 at the end of the first half.
The Lions looked to come out in the second half and take the lead. The half would be a close matchup between both teams. The leading scorers for Emmanuel would be: Kelvin Jones (10pts), Tavarus Webb (8pts),
Trell Washington (6pts) and
Kendall Latney (3pts), Chris Dees (4pts),
Jasper Gibson (5pts) and Robert Ruesca (2pts.) The Lions would be up 64-57 with less than 30 seconds left in the game. Tavarus Webb would draw the foul with 7 seconds left in the game to secure the closeout and the win for the Lions. The Lions would beat Clayton State, 66-57.
Emmanuel will face host Lees- McRae College on Tuesday, November 22nd. The game is set to begin at 7:00pm following the Women's game.
