Lions Fall to Fleet on the Road

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball team traveled to Due West, SC, to compete against conference opponent Erskine University. Despite taking an early lead by winning the first set, Emmanuel lost the match 1-3. 
 
Both teams struggled to hit in the first set. Emmanuel hit -0.071%, recording 7 kills on 28 attempts, while Erskine hit -0.033%, scoring 7 kills on 30 attempts. The Lions found themselves tied 20-20 approaching the end of the first set. Aided by back-to-back aces by Henrik Westhoff to end the set, Emmanuel won the 1st set 25-21. 
 
In the 2nd set, Emmanuel hit 0.125%, scoring 13 kills on 32 attempts. The Lions kept the set close at the start, remaining within two points to keep the score 14-16. However, Erskine finished the set on a 9-5 run, taking the set 25-19. 
 
In the 3rd set, Emmanuel hit 0.121%, scoring 10 kills on 33 attempts. Emmanuel started the set well, finding themselves down 3 at 10-13. Erskine would go on a 1-6 run, gaining a 6 point lead over Emmanuel (17-11). Emmanuel could not overcome the deficit, losing the 3rd set 19-25. 
 
The Lions recorded their highest hitting percentage in the 4th set, hitting 0.167%. They scored 13 kills on 30 attempts. Emmanuel found themselves down quick in the 3rd set, trailing 10-16. The Lions fought hard to get the score within three, cutting Erskine's lead to 20-23. Despite the effort, Erskine took the 4th set 25-21, defeating the Lions 3-1. 
 
Emmanuel finished the night hitting an overall 0.089%. As a team, they scored 43 kills, 4 aces, 14 blocks, 41 assists, and 38 digs. Eli Zdonek led Emmanuel with 17 kills, followed by Jayden Young with 6 and Gustavo Cavalcanti with 5. Henrik Westoff had an impressive performance, leading the team in aces, blocks, and assists.  Westhoff had 2 aces, 8 blocks, and 37 assists. Nicklas Eichenberger led the team with 10 digs, followed by Westhoff with 7 and Carlos Guerrero with 5. 
 
The Lions hope to bounce back from this loss as they compete at home against Edward Waters University on February 18th (Fri) at 12:00 PM.
