Lions Lose Heartbreaker to Warriors at the Buzzer

CENTRAL, SC - The Emmanuel College Men's Basketball team traveled to Central, SC, to compete against Southern Wesleyan University. Due to a slow start from the Lions, they were defeated 72-75, moving their record to 17-7 (16-4 CC). 
 
The Lions had a slow start to tonight's game, quickly finding themselves down by 11 with 8:41 remaining in the 1st half. Emmanuel fought back, cutting the lead to 4 with 1 minute left in the half. After a late shot from SWU, Emmanuel trailed SWU by half a dozen, 35-29 at the end of the 1st half. SWU had a strong start to the 2nd half, extending their lead to 10 (43-33) with 14:45 remaining in the game. However, Emmanuel went on an 18-9 run, cutting the lead to just 1 (51-52) with 8:19 remaining. After a string of lead changes, Emmanuel and SWU remained tied going into the last minute of regulation at 69-69. SWU's Addie Demarcus hit a 3 pointer with 0:41 remaining to take a 72-69 lead. In the next possession, KJ Jones II responded with a 3 pointer of his own, tying the game once again at 72-72. However, with 1 second remaining in the game, SWU's Ta'Jay Dunlap hit a game-winning 3, handing the Lions the loss, 72-75. 
 
As a team, Emmanuel shot 49.1% (26-53) from the field. They shot 45.8% (11-24) from behind the 3-point line and 52.9% (9-17) at the free-throw line. The Lions earned a lot of production down low, scoring 28 points in the paint. The bench helped the Lions, scoring 11 of their points. 
 
KJ Jones II led Emmanuel in scoring with 28 points. Jones also had 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Tyonn Stuckey scored 11 points with 7 rebound and 3 assists. Brandon Simpson scored 10 points with 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Jayvion Rucker scored 7 points with 6 rebounds. Michael Wright scored 5 points with 2 rebounds. Off the bench, Jasper Gibson score 6 points and Isaiah Foster scored 5. 
 
The Lions will continue their season this Friday as they travel to Tigerville, SC, to compete against conference opponent the University of North Greenville at 5:00 PM.
