Lions Top Bobcats, 98-89

BANNER ELK, NC - The Emmanuel College Men's Basketball team traveled to Banner Elk, NC, to compete against conference opponent Lees-McCrae College. Aided by 6 different lions scoring 10 or more points, the Lions were able to defeat Lees-McCrae 98-89. 
 
Emmanuel College stayed even with Lees-McCrae for most of the first half, finding themselves down only 3 at the end of the half. The two teams remained close for the beginning of the 2nd half, with Emmanuel leading by 1 with 13:12 remaining. At the 13 minute mark, Emmanuel began a scoring run that would lead to the victory. The Lions went on a 10-0 run until the 9:36 mark in the half, putting them up 68-57. However, Lees-McCrae was able to cut the lead down to 5 (73-68) with 6:44 remaining in the game. Emmanuel would go on to hit back-to-back three point shots from Michael Wright and Chris Dees, putting them ahead by 11 with 5 minutes left in the game. With the momentum, Emmanuel would refuse to let up, leading to their victory. Emmanuel held onto their lead for the rest of the game, winning by 9 points. 
 
6 different Lions recorded double-digit scoring. Kelvin Jones II led the way with an impressive 30 points, shooting 8-12 from the field (2-4 3PT) and 12-13 from the free throw line. Jones also recorded 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Jayvion Rucker scored 17 points (7-15) and recorded 5 rebounds. Brandon Simpson scored 12 points (3-5) and earned 5 rebounds. Michael Wright scored 12 points (3-7), and recorded 1 rebound and 1 assist. Coming off the bench, Isaiah Foster scored 10 points (3-8) with 6 coming behind the 3-point line. Chris Dees scored 16 points (5-7) in only 15 minutes with 12 points coming from behind the 3-point line. 
 
As a team, Emmanuel had an impressive night shooting. The Lions shot an overall 48.3% (29-60) from the field. They shot 46.7% (14-30) behind the 3-point line. They went near perfect from the free-throw line, shooting 83.9% (26-31). The team recorded another 30 points in the paint. They were aided by 12 points off turnovers and 23 fast break points. 
 
The Lions hope to complete the sweep of Lees-McCrae College when they play at home on February 11 (Friday) at 7:00 PM.
