FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel women's lacrosse team (5-3, 2-1 CC) hosted Chowan University on Saturday for a league matchup. The Lions defeated the Hawks, 16-8.
Justine Dorelas got the offense started for the Lions, scoring back-to-back goals in the first two minutes of game time. The Hawks soon answered with one of their own, but the Lions proceeded to close out the period with five straight to make the score 7-1 after 15 minutes. Three of the goals were scored by Bailie Garland, while Dorelas recorded the other two in the dominant stretch.
After Garland added her fourth score of the match, Chowan responded with a 4-1 run that made the score 9-5 in favor of the Lions. Mickaela Davis scored Emmanuel's lone goal during Chowan's rally. Anna Gill then scored her first goal of the day, giving Emmanuel a 10-5 lead.
The score was 11-8 Emmanuel with eight minutes remaining in the game. The Lions took command of the closing stretch, scoring the last five goals in a row for a final score of 16-8.
Justine Dorelas finished with 6 goals, while Baile Garland had 5.
Next up, women's lacrosse will face Southern Wesleyan in Central, South Carolina on Wednesday, March 30 at 4:00pm.
