Women's Lax Earns Third Straight Conference Win as they Defeat Warriors 20-12

CENTRAL, SC - The women's lacrosse team (6-3, 3-1 CC) hit the road on Wednesday to face conference opponent Southern Wesleyan. The Lions defeated the Warriors, 20-12 for their third consecutive conference victory. 

First period:

Justine Dorelas scored twice for the Lions in the first three minutes, while Bailie Garland added to the effort with a goal of her own. SWU scored three in a row several minutes later, but a pair from Anna Gill gave the Lions a 5-3 advantage after 15 minutes. 

Second period:

The teams traded goals over the first eight minutes of the second period until SWU tied the score at seven. But the Lions would take a 10-7 lead into halftime thanks to Garland finding the net three times in the final three minutes of the first half. 

Third period:

SWU started the second half with a pair of goals, but Mickaela Davis's first goal of the evening maintained the Emmanuel advantage, 11-9. Garland and Dorelas added more points to their stat sheet and increased Emmanuel's lead. The Warriors answered with one of their own, but Ashley Mercker gave the Lions a 14-10 lead when she scored with less than a minute remaining. 

Fourth period:

Four different Lions scored in the final period as Emmanuel began to pull away permanently. The Warriors mustered two goals, but Garland's seventh score of the night with 90 seconds remaining was the cherry on top of the commanding victory, 20-12. 

Bailie Garland finished with seven goals to lead the way for the Lions, while Justine Dorelas followed close behind with six. 

Next up, women's lacrosse will host Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, April 2 at 12:00pm.
