Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Shorter University Hawks tonight in conference action for their final game of the regular season. The Lions jumped out ahead early, taking a 10-3 lead into the halftime break. The Lions opened up their lead in the 2
nd half, outscoring the Hawks 11-2 to earn the 21-5 victory.
Lexie Lee got the Lions on the board early in the 1
st period, assisted by Paetyn Hoffman to take the 1-0 lead. The Hawks tied things up at 1-1 two minutes later, but
Olivia Wallach found the back of the net with 4:04 to play in the 1
st to give the Lions the 2-1 lead.
Demi Czynski followed that up with a score at the 2:10 mark to push the Lions lead to 3-1 and Lee scored her second goal of the game with 33 seconds to play in the 1
st, assisted by
Mikaela Austin to give the Lions the 4-1 lead heading into the 2
nd period.
Shorter grabbed the first goal of the 2
nd period to cut the Lions lead to 4-2, but Emmanuel quickly responded with a 3-0 scoring run with goals by
Taylor Schubert (assisted by Czynski), Czynski (assisted by Wallach) and Lee (assisted by Hoffman) to expand the Lions lead to 7-2 with 10:34 to play in the period. The Hawks made it 7-3 with 6:03 to play in the 2
nd, but the Lions answered with a 3-0 scoring run with goals by Austin (assisted by Wallach), Wallach, and Schubert (assisted by
Meghan Jennings) to make the score 10-3, Lions heading into halftime.
The Lions carried the momentum into the 2
nd half, opening the 3
rd period with a 4-0 scoring run. Lee found the net for her 4
th goal early in the 3
rd, assisted by Wallach to push the Lions lead to 11-3, with Wallach, Jennings and Schubert scoring the next three to put the Lions up 14-3 with 7:15 to play in the 3
rd. The Hawks responded to make it 14-4, but Jennings closed the period with a score, assisted by Czynski to make it 15-4.
The Lions scored three goals in the first four minutes of the final period, with Wallach, Austin, and Lee (assisted by Hoffman) finding the back of the net to put the Lions up 18-4. The Hawks responded to score their 5
th goal of the game, but the Lions closed the game strong with a 3-0 run, with Lee scoring her career high 6
thgoal to put Emmanuel up 19-5. Hoffman (assisted by
Kaitlyn Brown) and Czynski (assisted by
Avery Jennings) closed out the game with scores to make the final score 21-5, Lions.
Lexie Lee scored a career high 6 goals, with
Olivia Wallach adding 4. Wallach and Paeytn Hoffman led the team in assists with 3 each, while
Emily Dawson led the Lions in goal with 4 saves.
Next up, the Lions will open postseason play on Monday as they travel to Tigerville, SC to face the North Greenville University Trailblazers at 6PM in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Championship.
