Tigerville, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Tigerville, SC to face North Greenville University in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Championship. The Lions came into the matchup as the #5 seed, with the Trailblazers seeded #4. The teams traded points and the lead in the first half, with the Lions holding the 7-6 advantage heading into halftime. The second half was just as competitive, with the Lions taking a 10-9 lead into the 4
th period. The Lions pulled 12-9 early in the 4
th, but the Trailblazers closed the game on a 2-0 run to make the final score, 12-11 Lions. With the win, the Lions will move onto face #1 seed, Young Harris on Thursday at 12PM in the Conference Semifinals.
The Trailblazers got the scoring started early, taking a 1-0 lead with 12:51 to play in the 1
st. The Lions answered quickly with a goal by
Taylor Schubert, assisted by
Olivia Wallach to tie the game at 1-1. With 9:54 to play in the 1
st, Paeytn Hoffman gave the Lions the lead (assisted by
Demi Czynski), but the Trailblazers tied the game at 2-2 less than a minute later. Schubert scored her 2
nd goal of the period with 6:11 left in the period (assisted by Czynski) to make it 3-2, Lions but North Greenville answered to make it 3-3. Schubert kept her hot streak going, finding the net for the third time in the 1
st period to give the Lions the 4-3 lead, (assisted by Lexie Lee) but the Trailblazers knotted the game at 4-4 to close out the period.
The Trailblazers opened the 2
nd on a 2-0 scoring run to take the 6-4 lead, but the Lions roared back to score the next three goals.
Meghan Jennings connected on a free position goal with 11:26 to play in the 2
nd, and Schubert closed the period scoring the final two goals, (assisted by Hoffman and Jennings) to give the Lions the 7-6 lead heading into halftime.
North Greenville opened the 3
rd period on a 2-0 scoring run, giving the Trailblazers the 8-7 lead with 12:31 to play in the period. Czynski responded with a goal at the 11:32 mark to tie the game at 8-8, but the Trailblazers responded to go up 9-8. The Lions closed the period on a 2-0 run with goals by Wallach and Jennings to make it 10-9 Lions heading into the final period.
The Lions pulled ahead early in the 4
th, with goals by Lee and Czynski to make it 12-9, Lions but the Trailblazers responded well, scoring the final two goals to make the final score 12-11, Lions.
Taylor Schubert led the way for the Lions with 5 goals on the night, with
Demi Czynski and
Meghan Jennings adding 2 each. Czynski led the Lions with 2 assists on the night, with
Emily Dawson picking up 9 saves in goal.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Young Harris, GA to face #1 seed, Young Harris College in the Conference Carolinas semifinals on Thursday at 12PM.
