Lions Claim Commanding Win Over Fleet, 20-10

DUE WEST, SC - The women's lacrosse team faced Erskine College on Wednesday evening. The Lions cruised past the Flying Fleet, earning a 20-10 victory. This makes Emmanuel's record 8-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

First period:

The Lions got off to a quick start, scoring five unanswered goals in six minutes to take a 6-0 lead. The Fleet finally got on the board, but by the end of 15 minutes the score was 9-2, Emmanuel.

Second period:

The Fleet scored first, but the Lions scored last. Emmanuel's lead was increased to nine goals by halftime, 14-5. Justine Dorelas recorded half a dozen goals herself in the first half, the most on the team.

Third period:

Emmanuel kept the pedal on the medal in the third as Skyler Heard scored before Bailie Garland knocked in two in a row. Anna Gill's second goal of the night closed out the third with Emmanuel holding their largest lead of the evening, 19-6.

Fourth period:

The final quarter was the only one where the Fleet managed to outscore the Lions. However, it was too little too late for Erskine as another goal from Dorelas maintained the double digit lead for Emmanuel. Ultimately the Lions took the victory by ten, 20-10.

Justine Dorelas finished with seven goals and two assists. Bailie Garland scored four goals, while Christine Nguyen had three.

Next up, women's lacrosse will host Mount Olive on Monday, April 18 at 4:00pm.
