Lions Overcome Bulldogs on the Road

WILSON, NC - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball team traveled to Wilson, NC, to compete against conference opponent Barton College. Despite dropping the 3rd set, Emmanuel defeated Barton College 3-1 (25-23, 25-29, 22-25, 25-16). 
 
Both teams traded scoring runs to start the 1st set, finding themselves tied at 20-20. However, Emmanuel quickly won 3 straight points to earn a 23-20 lead. Emmanuel would take the set 25-23. The Lions hit an overall 0.308% (12-26) in the first set. 
 
Both teams remained close for the beginning of the 2nd set, remaining tied at 16-16. However, Emmanuel finished the set on a 9-3 run. The Lions won the set 25-19. Emmanuel hit an impressive 0.522% (15-23) in the 2nd set. 
 
The two teams remained close at the start of the 3rd set, finding themselves tied at 9-9. However, Barton went on an 8-3 run to take a 17-12 lead over Emmanuel. The Lions quickly responded, winning 6 straight points to take an 18-17 lead. However, Barton finished the set on an 8-4 run, winning the 3rd set 25-22.  The Lions hit a match low 0.061% (13-33) in the 3rd set. 
 
Emmanuel and Barton kept the score close at the beginning of the 4th set with The Lions holding a 10-9 lead to start the set. The Lions went on a quick 9-3 run, taking a 19-12 lead over Barton. The deficit proved to be too much for Barton, as Emmanuel won the set 25-16. Emmanuel hit an overall 0.304% (11-23) in the 4th set.  
 
The Lions hit an overall 0.276% (51-105) in today's match. Gustavo Cavalcanti led the team with 20 kills, followed by Eli Zdonek with 15. Carlos Guerrero and Gustavo Cavalcanti led the Lions with 2 aces. Daniel Beacham led the team with 5 blocks, followed by Carlos Guerrero and Gustavo Cavalcanti with 3. Henrick Westhoff led the team with 45 assists. Carlos Guerrero and Nicklas Eichenberger led the Lions with 9 digs, followed by Henrick Westhoff with 7. 
 
With today's win, Emmanuel's record moves to 12-12 (6-6 CC). They will continue their season on April 5th at 7:00 as they compete against Conference opponent Erskine College in Franklin Springs, GA.
