MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The Emmanuel men's volleyball team continued the 2022 Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship on Friday. After reaching the semifinal round for the first time in program history, the Lions failed to advance to the championship, losing to the North Greenville Crusaders, 0-3.
Set one:
The teams traded points early on until the score was 10-9, North Greenville on top. However, the Crusaders proceeded to score eight unanswered points, giving the Lions a deficit they couldn't overcome. NGU would go to take the opener by six, 25-19.
Set two:
The Crusaders led 8-5 early in the second. Three straight for the Lions tied the game. The two teams went back and forth for awhile, but NGU was always a point or two ahead, until the score was 19-18. Then, another dominant stretch of play for the Crusaders closed out the second set on a 6-2 run, giving them the game, 25-20.
Set three:
NGU continued to control the match, scoring the first seven points of the third set. The Lions finally got on the board, but were ultimately unable to mount a comeback attempt. NGU would close out the sweep and take the final set, 25-12.
Gustavo Cavalcanti finished with 10 kills, 2 digs, a block and an ace. Eli Zdonek had 5 digs and 4 kills.
This concludes the 2022 season for men's volleyball.
