Denham Throws Near-Perfect Game as Lions Split Doubleheader with Fleet

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel baseball team (17-29, 9-18 CC) hosted Erskine College (27-20, 17-13 CC) for senior day on Saturday. The Lions split the series, winning 2-1 before falling 4-7.
 
Game one:
Both teams were strong on the mound in the opener, but ultimately Emmanuel defeated Erskine 2-1. Jake Denham pitched the entire game for the Lions and allowed just two hits. The lefty added six strikeouts to the winning performance. 
 
Caleb Dix took the loss for Erskine. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four. Connor Harrison started the game for Erskine. The hurler allowed six hits and zero runs over two and a third innings, striking out four and walking zero.
 
Emmanuel tallied one home run on the day. Brody Campbell went yard in the fifth inning.
 
Emmanuel racked up ten hits on the day. Campbell, Cody Minnis, and Luke Patty each racked up multiple hits for Emmanuel. The Lions were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Campbell made the most plays with nine.
 
Game two:
Emmanuel stayed in it until the end, but Erskine pulled away late in a 7-4 victory in the second game of the afternoon. The game was tied at three with Erskine batting in the top of the seventh when Chase Crouch homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
 
Erskine opened up scoring in the second inning, when Tariq Bacon singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Emmanuel answered in the fourth when Luke Patty recorded an RBI. The Lions added two more in the fifth, thanks to a sac fly from Judd Roberts and a single by Dustin Frost.
 
Erskine evened things up at three in the top of the fifth inning when Armondo Becerra grounded out, scoring one run.
 
Josh Collett earned the win for Erskine. The fireballer surrendered zero runs on four hits over four innings, striking out six. Ira Clifton, Logan Spivey, and Harry Bernard all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. 
 
Colby Feilds started the game for Emmanuel. The righty surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Trey Campbell took the loss for Emmanuel. The pitcher lasted one and one-third innings, allowing two hits and three runs while walking one.
 
Emmanuel collected eight hits. Will Pittman, Yeshua Saint, and Luke Patty all managed multiple hits for Emmanuel.
 
Kyle Marti led Erskine with three hits in five at bats. 
 
Next up, Emmanuel baseball will conclude their regular season with a three game series at UNC Pembroke. First pitch in game one is set for Friday, April 29 at 6:00pm.
