Lions Reverse Sweep Saints for Second Time This Season

GAFNEY, SC - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball team traveled to Gaffney, SC, to compete against conference opponent Limestone University. After falling down 2-0, the Lions impressively rallied to take the last 3 sets, winning the match 3-2 (22-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-13). 
 
The two teams traded leads to start the set, finding themselves tied at 20-20 nearing the end of the set. However, Limestone went on a 3-1 run to take a 23-21 lead. The Lions tried to fight back, but after two straight hitting errors from the Lions, Limestone took the first set 25-22. The Lions hit 0.333% in the 1st set, compared to Limestone's 0.552%. 
 
The two teams started the 2nd set close, with Emmanuel down two at 7-9. However, Limestone University went on a 2-11 run to take a 20-9 lead. Ultimately, that deficit was too much for the Lions. Limestone took the 2nd set 25-16. Emmanuel hit 0.038% in the 2nd set, compared to Limestone's 0.462%. 
 
Emmanuel and Limestone traded scoring runs for the beginning of the 3rd set, finding themselves tied at 19-19. The teams traded points, remaining tied at 21. With a kill from Eli Zdonek and an ace from Henrick Westhoff, Emmanuel took a 23-21 lead. The teams traded points and Emmanuel earned a set point at 24-23. A kill by Gustavo Cavalcanti won the 3rdset for Emmanuel 25-23. The Lions hit 0.444% in the 3rd set, compared to Limestone's 0.333%. 
 
Just like the other 3 sets, the two teams traded leads but found themselves tied at 19-19 late in the 4th set. Heading into the end of the 4th set, Emmanuel hit a timely 4-1 scoring run, setting up 4 set points for the Lions at 24-20. After a quick kill from Gustavo Cavalcanti, Emmanuel took the 4st set 25-20, forcing Limestone into a 5th set. Emmanuel hit 0.429% in the 4st set, holding Limestone to a mere 0.192%. 
 
Emmanuel and Limestone traded leads for the beginning of the 5th set, ultimately remaining tied at 10-10 going into the end of the match. After a kill from Cavalcanti and an attack error on behalf of Limestone, Emmanuel took a 12-10 lead. However, Limestone scored 3 straight points, taking a 13-12 lead. After three straight errors by Limestone, Emmanuel took three straight points to win the 5th set 15-13. The Lions hit 0.417% in the 5th set, while Limestone hit 0.000%. 
 
The Lions hit an impressive 0.306% for the match. Gustavo Cavalcanti led the team with 18 kills, followed by Eli Zdonek with 8 and Harrison Ceolho with 6. Henrick Westhoff led the team with 4 aces, followed by both Jayden Young and Abu Kamara with 1. Harrison Coelho led the team with 7 blocks, followed by Gustavo Cavalcanti with 4 and Eli Zdonek with 2. Henrick Westhoff led the Lions with 44 assists.
 
After today's impressive comeback, the Lions record moves to 14-12 (7-6 CC). The Lions will play their last regular season game this Saturday, April 9th, against conference opponent North Greenville University in Franklin Springs, GA.
