FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - Emmanuel College Athletics has selected Logan Reese to be the new Head Men's Golf Coach heading into the 2022-23 season.
Reese previously served as Assistant Sports Information Director and Assistant Golf Coach, but will be transitioning throughout the summer into the new role.
After playing various sports growing up, Reese picked up a golf club during his freshmen year of high school and immediately fell in love. The other sports soon fell to the wayside as his infatuation with golf quickly developed. After moving from Columbia, South Carolina to Daytona Beach, Florida before his junior year of high school, Reese helped lead Mainland High School to their first FHSAA State Championship appearance in 15 years, earning a second place finish at Regionals in the process. During his senior year, Mainland Golf Coach Don Garner got in contact with Coach Howard Eaton at Emmanuel. Reese signed his NLI to become a Lion that summer, and proceeded to play all four years of collegiate golf for Emmanuel. From his sophomore to senior year, Reese consistently played in the first or second spot on the roster and recorded a pair of second place finishes throughout his college career. The first of which came at the NCCAA Southeast Regional, where he birdied the final hole to card a 72 and earn an NCCAA National Championship bid.
Reese graduated from Emmanuel in 2021, receiving a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree and earning valedictorian honors with a 3.99 cumulative GPA.
As an assistant coach in 2021-22, Reese helped lead the men to a team victory at the 2022 Lake Sinclair Bulldog Invitational. Reese is a student of the game, and has studied many aspects of the sport through working at various golf courses, volunteering and caddying at PGA Tour events, reading books on the swing, the mental game, course strategy, and practice techniques, while always asking questions and picking up advice from those around him.
Reese still plays golf every chance he gets, including a couple of professional events in December of 2021. He shot 73-68 in the Daytona Beach Open on the Florida Professional Golf Tour, recording a T27 finish at 3 under par. Reese plans to bring his player's mindset to the coaching side. "I love competing and pushing myself and those around me to get better in every way possible. I'm so excited for this opportunity to share what I've learned about this great game with this wonderful group of guys.
"The game of golf has given me so much, including the opportunity to play for Emmanuel. This institution is a special place with a lot of amazing people that truly changed my life. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to give back to the Emmanuel community and the game of golf, and I hope to impact my players the way this place has impacted me. I love all of the guys on our team and can't wait to serve them and our incoming student athletes for years to come."
Emmanuel's Vice President for Athletics Nate Moorman had this to say on Reese's hiring, "Logan more than proved himself ready to lead the men's program by the impact he had on the men's team during the 2021-22 school year. He not only led with great passion, but was impactful athletically and personally on several of our male golfers. We're thankful for his willingness to continue to lead. It's always a special opportunity when two of your recent and successful alumni want to come back to EC to serve and lead with such great passion. We're looking forward to a very bright future for both of our golf programs."
