Box Score DUE WEST, SC - The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team faced the Erskine Flying Fleet today in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions got off to a quick start with four goals in the first half to take home a 4-1 victory over Erskine. With the win, Emmanuel's record improves to 5-9 overall, 5-5 in conference play.
Freshman, Janya Gonzales got things started for Emmanuel with a goal in the 6
th minute, assisted by
Elizabeth Barnhart, to take a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, it was senior,
Lourdes Tompkins with a score, assisted by
Zoe Logue to make it 2-0. In the 15
th minute, freshman,
Shania Wegesend scored to make it 3-0 Lions. Gonzales scored her second of the game in the 25
th minute to take a 4-0 lead. Erskine would get one across in the 31
st minute to make the score 4-1 going into the half. The Lions led the Flying Fleet in shots on goal, 4-2.
The second period was a defensive battle, with neither team scoring again. The Lions had 3 shots on goal in the second half, to Erskine's zero.
Emmanuel took home a 4-1 victory. Up next for the Lions will be a conference game against North Greenville University on Tuesday, October 24 at 5p.m.
