Lions Draw with Lees McRae on Senior Day

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team hosted Lees-McRae for a Senior Day matchup in Conference Carolinas play. There was some early excitement, with each team scoring quickly in the first, but that would be it, and this one ended tied 1-1. With the draw, the Lions finish the season at 5-11-1 overall, 5-7-1 in conference play. 
 
Honored today were seniors, Claire Phillips, (Cairo, GA) Lourdes Tompkins, (Athens, GA) Madison Nimmons (Lexington, GA), Milly Dingwall (Essex, England), Julia Styrmisdottir (Reykjavík, Iceland), and Zoe Logue (Fairfield, PA) 
 
Lees-McRae got thing started with a goal, 2:03 into the first half to make the score, 1-0. Freshman, Shania Wegesend responded at 2:57 with a goal of her own, to tie things up, 1-1. 
 
It was a defensive bathe the rest of the way, with Lees-McRae edging Emmanuel in shots on goal (7-6), but the Lions showed heart and didn't allow a goal in the final 88 minutes of play. 
 
The Emmanuel coaches had this to say about their senior group –
 
"Whether you've spent 2, 3, or 4 years at Emmanuel, this group has left a lasting impact on our program. You are all caring teammates, fierce competitors, dedicated students, and fantastic role models of what it means to be an Emmanuel University Lion. Thank you for your compassionate leadership and love for this program. We pray for nothing but the best in your future endeavors as you move onto the next great chapter in your lives. You are all always welcome back and as always, Go Lions!"
