SPARTANBURG, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Soccer team traveled to Spartanburg, SC today to take on the Converse Valkyries in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship.  This was a rematch of the last year's semifinal matchup, which Converse won 4-0 on their way to winning the title in 2022. Although Emmanuel took the lead in the first half, it was all Valkyries in the final 45 minutes, and Converse came away with a 2-1 victory. With the loss, the Lions record fell to 8-6-3 on the season, 6-3-3 in conference play.
 
The Lions struck first at 28:42 with a goal by senior, Rafael Calderon, assisted by Nathan Walker to give Emmanuel a 1-0 lead early on. At the half, the score was 1-0 and the Lions led in shots on goal, 3-2. 
 
The Valkyries responded quickly in the second half to tie things up 1-1 in the 47^th minute. They would go onto take a 2-1 lead in the 75^th minute of play and that would be all they'd need to earn the victory. 
 
Overall, the Valkyries had 10 shots on goal to Emmanuel's 3.
 
With the victory, Converse will move onto play in the semifinals against Francis Marion on Friday, November 10 at 11a.m.
