FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team looked to start the season 4-0 in conference play hosting King University today in the Shaw Athletic Center. The Lions got off to a slow start offensively but would pick up the pace in the second quarter and not look back. The Lions defeated King 70-54, moving to 7-4 overall on the season, 4-0 in conference action.
The first quarter was a defensive battle, with neither team getting into a rhythm offensively. The Lions shot 30.7% from the field in the first. A key three pointer by junior,
Addie Penick would bring the Lions within one early, but the Tornado led the way, 10-9 after one.
In the second quarter, the Lions took a 12-10 lead on a three by senior,
Sydney Wyatt with 9:46 to play. The Lions shot 46.7% from the field and were 3-4 from beyond the arc. Emmanuel outscored the Tornado 20-12 in the quarter and led 29-22 at the half.
The Lions stayed hot from three in the third quarter, going 3-4 behind Wyatt, who was 2-2 from beyond the arc. The Lions were 5-12 overall from the field (41%) and led by as much as 10 in the quarter. After three, the Lions led 49-40.
In the fourth quarter, Emmanuel was 3-10 from the field, but made 14-20 free throws (70%) to extend their lead to 12. Emmanuel would go onto defeat King by a score of 70-58 to remain unbeaten in conference action.
Sydney Wyatt led the way for the Lions with 28 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. Addie Pennick added 9 points and 5 assists to the total, with junior,
Maddie Futch leading the way with 15 rebounds and 8 points.
