Franklin Springs, GA - The Lions hosted #5 in the Nation for DII Basketball, UNC Pembroke on senior day this evening. This was a long awaited game between these two teams as #2 seed Emmanuel would take on #1 seed UNC Pembroke.
Freshman, Tavarus "Spudd" Webb and Junior KJ Jones led the team to victory as they scored 64 of Emmanuel's 81 points on the night. KJ Jones scored with 3 assists and 5 rebounds. He went 16 for 16 from the free throw line, 2 for 2 from beyond the ark and 8 for 10 from the field. Spudd Webb scored 30 points with 3 assist and 6 rebounds. He went 8 for 9 from the free throw line, 2 for 3 from beyond the ark and 10 for 14 from the field. This was the highest scoring game for Webb this season.
From the field, both team shot equal at 54%. The Lions out shot the Braves from beyond the ark and from the line. Lions shot 38% from beyond the arc compared to the Braves who shot 29%. The Lions cashed in on almost every opportunity that was given to them from the free throw line as they went 28 for 33 on the night. The Braves were currently on a 21 game road win streak and had not lost since 2021 when they were beaten by the Lions on their home court. The Lions won 81-66.
The game guaranteed the Lions a spot in the Semi Finals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Lions will host Converse for their final game of the regular season on Tuesday, February 21st. The game is set to begin at 7:00pm.
