Lions Split the two game series with Georgia College

Milledgeville, GA - The Lions softball team traveled to Georgia College to compete against the Bobcats in their second double header of the 2023 season. Emmanuel currently sits at 0-2 after losing both games to Carson-Newman. 

Game 1 recap: Bobcats win 2-0

Both teams were strong on the rubber on Tuesday, but Georgia College was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Emmanuel College Lions on Tuesday. A single by Adrianna Meeks in the third inning was a positive for Emmanuel College Lions. Jana Shellhorse led things off in the circle for Georgia College. The righty went seven innings, allowing zero runs on five hits, striking out one and walking one. Lexi JordanIsabel Harrison, Ellee Varner, Meeks, and Kyna Cheney each collected one hit to lead Emmanuel College Lions.  Emmanuel College Lions was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Gabby Buffington made the most plays with five. Madison Todd went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Georgia College in hits.

Game 2 recap: Lions win 1-0

With Edwards On The Mound, Emmanuel College Lions Shuts Out Georgia College. Madison Edwards had all the right stuff on Tuesday for Emmanuel College Lions, allowing zero runs and besting Georgia College by a score of 1-0 The pitching was strong on both sides. Edwards struck out seven, while Georgia College pitchers sat down two. A single by Shea Zweifel in the second inning was a positive for Georgia College. Edwards led things off in the circle for Emmanuel College Lions. The right hander lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out seven and walking zero. Shelby Jones toed the rubber for Georgia College. The pitcher went five innings, allowing one run on seven hits, striking out two and walking one.  Montana Ledbetter threw two innings out of the bullpen. Jaryn Gibson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lions in hits. Zweifel led Georgia College with two hits in two at bats. Georgia College didn't commit a single error in the field. Emily Hobbs had the most chances in the field with seven.

The Lady Lions will continue their season on the road as they take on USC Beaufort on Saturday, February 17th in the Lander University Tournament. First pitch is set at 11:00am.
