FLORENCE, SC - The Emmanuel baseball team won their conference series with Francis Marion on Friday and Saturday. After winning 3-2 on Friday, the Lions won 4-3 on Saturday before falling 4-9 in the second part of the doubleheader. This moves Emmanuel's record to 14-12 overall and 6-6 in league play.
Game one:
Cody Minnis opened up the scoring in the 3rd inning when his double sent Braeden Eanevson home. In the bottom of the 7th Francis Marion answered with a pair of runs that put them ahead by one, 2-1. However, in the top of the 9th Johnathan Manubusan hit a game-winning home run to the left center of the field that sent Connor Poitevint home and made the score 3-2. The Lions would lock down the Patriots in the bottom of the inning, resulting in a 3-2 victory.
Clifford Brown got the win on the mound for Emmanuel, pitching 1.2 innings and recording 3 strikeouts. Matthew Dickey started the game and went 6 innings, while Tyler Mayfield was credited with the save.
Game two:
Emmanuel got off to a hot start on Saturday morning. The Lions scored twice in the first inning and followed it up with a pair of runs in the second inning, giving them a 4-0 lead. The Patriots responded with a home run in the 3rd and a pair of scores in the 4th. However, that was all the runs they could muster as Emmanuel held them scoreless the next 5 innings and went on to claim the win, 4-3.
Simon Boggie started the day on the mound for the Lions. Clifford Brown entered in the 4th inning to record the win, while Ethan Pooler pitched the final two innings for the save.
Game three:
FMU scored twice in the 1st and once in the 2nd and 3rd innings to go up 4-0. In the 6th inning Chan Haulk hit a grand slam home run, driving in Zachary Bergstrom, Johnathan Manubusan, and Nick Dietsch. But with the score tied 4-4, the Patriots scored three times in the 7th inning and once in the 8th. The Lions didn't respond and would lose the game, 4-9.
Fields Colby pitched 3 innings before Dosie Drakeford pitched 3. Barrett Barkley and Miles Dodds closed out the game, pitching 1 inning and 2/3 of an inning, respectively.
Next up, Emmanuel baseball will have a midweek, out of conference matchup against North Georgia on the road on Wednesday, March 22 at 4:00pm.
