Lions Beat Bobcats in Five Set Thriller

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team faced the Lees-McRae Bobcats at home on Friday night. The Lions came out victorious after five sets, 3-2.

First set:

The first set was controlled by the Bobcats as they would take it by nine points, 25-16

Second set:

Emmanuel bounced back in the second, starting with a 5-1 run that set the mood for the set. Leading 10-6, the Lions would score five straight points and build a nine point lead that they would never relinquish. They soon won the set, 25-16.

Third set:

After both teams took turns controlling the first two sets, the third was the thriller one would expect. LMC started with four in a row, but EC answered with four in a row that led into a 9-1 run until the score was 11-6. Then with the Lions leading 12-8, it was the Bobcats who went on a 10-2 streak, once again taking the lead. The Bobcats stayed ahead until the score was 21-19 and the Lions pieced together yet another 5-1 rally, giving them set point 24-22. LMC then scored three straight, making it 25-24. A kill from Jayden Young tied the score at 25. The Bobcats kept giving themselves chance to win the set, but kills from Nicklas Eichenberger and Young would both tie the score. When it was locked at 28, LMC was the one to close out the long-lasting set, scoring twice to take it 30-28.

Fourth set:

Emmanuel led 7-1 thanks to a dominant run to begin the fourth. LMC would slowly close the gap over the remainder of the set, but the Lions stayed ahead to eventually win it by three and force a fifth set, 25-22.

Fifth set:

Emmanuel dominated the beginning of the tie break set, going up by half a dozen, 9-3. LMC would put together a late 8-1 run, but Emmanuel held on to win the set, 15-13, and the match, 3-2.

Leaders:

Senior Jayden Young set the pace on offense with 17 kills while adding 7 digs and 3 blocks on defense. Junior Carlos Guerrero recorded 12 kills. Senior Harrison Coehlo set a career high with 9 blocks.
