CENTRAL, SC - The Emmanuel baseball team played a road series at Southern Wesleyan this weekend. The Lions won 2 out of 3 games to claim the series. This moves Emmanuel's record to 17-13 overall and 8-7 in league play.
Game one:
The Lions obliterated the Warriors in Friday's series opener, 17-4. The scoring opened in the top of the second inning, when the Lions scored six runs. The Warriors notched one in the bottom of the same, but Emmanuel had already garnered a large lead. A double from Brody Campbell in the top of the third sent three runners home, further increasing Emmanuel's lead. The Lions would lead 15-3 after eight innings, but added two more runs in the ninth to capture the 17-4 victory.
Brody Campbell, Johnathan Manibusan, and Zachary Bergstrom all finished with three hits. Matthew Dickey got the win on the mound for the Lions.
Game two:
SWU made it 1-0 with a run in the first inning. In the top of the fourth, the Lions scored three runs, going up 3-1. However, they weren't able to put on the explosive offensive performance they had achieved in the first game as Emmanuel didn't score after the fourth inning. A run for SWU in the bottom of the fourth was followed with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Warriors a 4-3 victory.
Simon Boggie and Ethan Pooler both pitched three innings for the Lions. Tyler Mayfield went a third of an inning, while Clifford Brown closed out the game.
Game three:
The Lions scored in the second and third innings to go up 2-0 early in the final match of the series. However, SWU responded with five runs in the third inning to take a three score advantage, 5-2. Thomas Collins and Nick Dietsch both went yard for the Lions in the fourth inning, both of them scoring two runs. Their homers combined with an RBI for Cody Minnis in the same inning to put Emmanuel up by two, 7-5. The Warriors retook the lead in the bottom of the same inning, 8-7. However, runs from Emmanuel in the 6th and 7th were followed by a home run for Brody Campbell in the 8th, ultimately giving the Lions the victory in the game, 10-8, and the win in the series, 2-1.
Nick Dietsch led the way with three hits in five at bats, including his home run. Colby Fields, Dosie Drakeford, Hunter Parks, and Clifford Brown all threw for the Lions. Parks was attributed the win after going three and a third innings and striking out four.
