Box Score Jacksonville, FL – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Jacksonville, FL tonight to take on Edward Waters University in non-conference play. The Lions competed well, winning the match in four tough sets, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 25-21. With the win, the Lions improve to 1-3 on the season.
In the first set, the Lions led early and had an answer for every Tigers point. The Lions finished the set with 13 kills, 5 by freshman,
Arturo Diaz-Dube and two aces. Emmanuel won the first 25-21.
The Tigers responded in the second set, with two aces of their own. The Lions led the Tigers in kills, 13-10 but had six service errors in the set. Edward Waters took the second set, 25-17.
The Lions rebounded in the third with a strong set. Emmanuel would go on a 6-0 run early, with two service aces by freshman,
Andrew Michael to give the Lions a 9-3 advantage. The Tigers would bring the set within three, but the Lions would respond and take the set 25-19.
Emmanuel held the lead for the full fourth set, getting up by as much as 8 points, 18-10 before the Tigers mounted a comeback. Edward Waters would get within 3 points of the lead late in the set, but the Lions held on to take the set, 25-21 and the match, 3-1.
Overall, Emmanuel had 49 kills, six aces, 25 digs, 47 assists and 4 blocks.
Senior,
Eli Zdonek led the way with 14 kills, while freshman,
Arturo Diaz-Dube had 11.
Freshman,
Abdallah Roshdy had 36 of Emmanuel's 47 assists, and freshman,
Andrew Michael was hot from the service line with 4 aces on the night.
Senior,
Nicklas Eichenberger contributed 9 digs on the night, and freshman
Greg Bodus had 2 blocks.
