Lions Down Shorter 3-1!

Box Score Rome, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team traveled to Rome, GA tonight to take on Shorter University in conference play. The matchup was competitive from the start. The Hawks took set one, 25-23 but the Lions answered to take the next three sets, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17. With the win, the Lions improve to 7-6, 4-0 in conference. 
 
The Lions started things off in the first set taking a 6-2 lead, early including two service aces. The Hawks responded to tie things up, 11-11, continuing a 7-0 run to take a 15-11 lead.  The Hawks would hold onto their lead, taking the first set 25-23. 
 
In the second set, the Lions started off strong offensively, taking an early 8-2 lead. The Hawks would respond with a 4-0 run to make it 8-6. Shorter would tie things up at 16-16 and the teams would trade points until the Lions took the lead for good 19-18, after forcing a service error. Emmanuel would get up by as much as four points late in the set, 22-18 but Shorter would respond to bring the set within one point, 23-22. The Lions would finish out the set by scoring the final two points to win, 25-22.

The Hawks would take an early 6-2 lead, but the Lions would roar back to tie things at 10 on a kill by Jocelyn Martin. There were several ties and lead changes midway through the set, but the Lions took control on another kill by Jackson to make it 18-17, and they'd lead the rest of the way to take the set, 25-21. 
 
The Lions took an early 4-2 lead in the fourth set, but Shorter responded well, going on a 7-2 run to take an 8-5 lead. A kill by Alaina Emminger gave the Lions a 10-9 lead and Emmanuel would continue on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 13-9. The Hawks would come within two points of the lead on a few occasions, but the Lions would close the set out strong to take it, 25-17 and the game, 3-1. 
 
Overall, the Lions had 49 kills, 46 assists, 11 aces, 59 digs, and 6 blocks. 
 
Jocelyn Martin led the way with 15 kills, with Ellie Jackson contributing 12 on the night. Isabel Miller had 14 assists, with Sami Gambill and Morgan Brice each adding 12. Gambill was strong from the service line with 3 aces, while Asia Queen, Layla Bland, and Jackson each contributed 2 aces apiece. Brianna Bigelow led the Lions in blocks with 2.5.
