Lions Defeat SWU 3-1!

Box Score CENTRAL, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team traveled to Central, SC to take on the Southern Wesleyan Warriors tonight in conference play. The game was competitive from the start, with the Lions coming back to win the first set, 25-23. The Warriors would need extra points to take set two, 27-25, but the Lions rebounded to take the final two sets, 25-20, 25-19 to earn a 3-1 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 12-6 overall, 9-0 in conference.
 
There were several ties and lead changes early in the first set, with the teams trading points. The Warriors took the lead midway through the set, 18-13, but the Lions responded to tie things up at 22-22. Emmanuel would close the set out strong to win, 25-23. 
 
The Warriors took an early 11-5 lead in the second set, but the Lions answered with a 7-1 run to tie things at 12. The Lions would then take the lead on three straight kills, 20-15 before the Warriors answered back to tie things at 22. The Warriors would use their home court advantage, scoring the final three points in the set to win it, 27-25. 
 
The third set started out competitive with the teams trading points. The Lions used a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead, forcing the Warriors to call a timeout. The Lions continued their momentum, expanding their lead to 17-8 midway through the set. The Warriors would make it interesting, scoring five points in a row to make it 24-20, but a kill by Emily Hanson sealed the deal for the Lions, winning the set 25-20. 
 
The Lions carried their momentum into the fourth set, taking an early 10-4 lead. The Warriors would respond, tying the set at 11-11, but a kill by Hanson would give the Lions the lead back, 14-13. Emmanuel would close the set out strong, scoring the final three points to take the set, 25-19 and the game, 3-1. 
 
Overall, the Lions had 58 kills, 55 assists, 10 aces, 89 digs, and 9 blocks.
 
Ellie Jackson had herself a day, with a double-double 16 kills, 15 digs. Asia Queen led the team in digs with 17, while Layla Bland contributed 15. Sami Gambill was strong from the service line with 4 aces, Cailin Pritchard and Jackson each contributed 2 aces. Emily Hanson was strong up front with 2.0 blocks on the night to help the Lions extend their conference winning streak to 10 games.
