Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Soccer team hosted the Francis Marion University Patriots this afternoon in conference play.
Matt Fitzer gave the Lions a 1-0 lead late in the second half and the home team held on to earn the win! With the win, the Lions improve to 5-3-2 on the season, 4-3-3 in conference play.
The first half was a defensive battle, with neither team breaking free for a goal. The Patriots outshot the Lions, 9-5 with 3 shots on goal. At the half, the two teams were knotted up at 0-0.
The second half was as competitive and fast-paced as the first. The Patriots outshot the Lions, 10-2, with 6 shots on goal, but Emmanuel's
Matt Fitzer made the shot that mattered, scoring at the 74:29 mark, assisted by
Andrew Rowe to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. The Patriots threatened to score several times the rest of the way, but Emmanuel's defense led by goalkeeper,
Natxo Faus held strong to earn the 1-0 win.
