Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted Augusta University tonight in regional action. The Jaguars got off to a hot start taking set one, 25-19. The Lions roared back to win set two,25-16 but Augusta would take the final two, 25-16, 25-20 to win the game, 3-1. With the loss, the Lions fall to 13-8 on the season.
The Lions took an early 4-1 lead in the first set, but Augusta would quickly respond to tie things up at 4. The two teams traded points and the lead until midway through the set when the Jaguars took control using a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 18-13. The Lions would get back within three points,18-13, with kills by
Jocelyn Martin and
Emily Hanson, but the Jaguars would take the set, 25-19.
In set two, the Jaguars continued their momentum taking an early lead, 7-4. The Lions would answer back using a 3-0 run to tie things at10 and a 7-0 run to take a 15-10 lead. The Jaguars would get within one point of the lead multiple times, but the Lions would score the final 4 of 5 points on kills by
Emily Hanson and
Jocelyn Martin to take the set, 25-21.
Set three saw the Jaguars use a 5-0 run early to take a 9-6 lead. Although the Lions would keep things close, Augusta would extend its lead to 17-10 midway through the set. The Lions would get within four points of the lead, but the Jaguars used a few key runs to take the set, 25-16.
In set four, the Jaguars jumped out to an early 8-3 lead, but Emmanuel would roar back to tie things at 10-10 on a kill by
Ellie Jackson. Another kill by Jackson would put the Lions up 13-12, but the Jaguars would respond with a 5-0 run to retake the lead, 17-13. The Lions would get within a point of the lead, but the Jaguars would score the final four points to take the set, 25-20 and the game 3-1.
Overall, the Lions had 49 kills, 3 aces, 8 blocks, 49 assists and 85 digs.
Ellie Jackson led the way with 14 kills and 21 digs, while
Jocelyn Martin contributed 13 kills.
Isabel Miller had 2 aces on the night and 20 assists.
Cailin Pritchard led the team with 5 blocks, while
Brianna Bigelow added 3.
