Lions Fall to Chowan 2-1

Box Score Murfreesboro, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team traveled to Murfreesboro, NC today to take on Chowan in conference action. The Hawks got off to a strong start with two goals in the first half of play. The Lions made things interesting in the second half, scoring to cut Chowan's lead in half, but the Hawks would hold on to win, 2-1. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-7 overall, 1-3 in conference play.
 
The first half began as a defensive battle, with neither team scoring in the first 30 minutes of play. The Hawks were first to find the net at the 38:39 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Chowan scored their second goal of the half at 43:22 to make it 2-0 heading into the half. The Hawks out shot the Lions 13-3 in the first half, with 8 of their shots being on goal. 
 
The two teams started off strong defensively in the second half of play. The Lions found the net at 82:10 with a goal by Veronica Calixto to make it 2-1, Chowan. The Lions kept the pressure on the Hawks, out shooting Chowan 8-6, with 2 being on goal. In the end, the home team held off the Lions threat to win, 2-1. Emmanuel junior, A'Leigh Coleman ended the day with 9 saves, while Calixto and Elizabeth Barnhart each had a shot on goal.
