Lions Down USC Aiken 57-41!

Box Score AIKEN, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Aiken, SC tonight to take on the Pacers of USC-Aiken in regional play. The two teams kept it close in the first half of play, with Aiken leading 21-19 at the half. A strong second half by the Lions helped Emmanuel pull away to take the win, 57-41. With the win, the Lions improve to 1-2 on the season.

The two teams went back and forth to start the first quarter of play. The Lions would take a 10-6 lead, but the Pacers would go on a 4-0 run to tie it the game at 10. A three-pointer by Maddie Futch would give the Lions a 13-10 lead, and Emmanuel would take a 13-11 lead into the second quarter. In the first, the Lady Lions were 5-17 from the field (29.4%) and 3-9 from beyond the arc. 

The second quarter was a defensive battle with neither team getting their offense going. The Lions were 3-17 from the field and trailed the Pacers 21-19 heading into the half. 

After the break, Emmanuel's halftime adjustments paid off as the Lions started clicking offensively. The Lions outscored the Pacers 21-11 in the quarter, shooting 45% from the field (9-20) and 3-3 from the free throw line.  Ade'Jah James scored 9 of her 11 points in the quarter, helping the Lions take a 40-32 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

The Lions continued their momentum into the fourth quarter. Emmanuel started the quarter with a 7-0 run to push their lead to 47-32. The Lions were 6-11 from the field (54.5%) and 4-4 from the charity stripe. The Lions outscored the Pacers 17-9 in the quarter, taking home a 57-41 victory. 

Three Lions ended the night in double figures scoring, with Naomi Roberts leading the way with 14 points. Maddie Futch ended the night with 12 points, with Ade'Jah James contributing 11. James grabbed 9 rebounds for the Lions, with Addie Penick and Futch adding seven a piece. Penick led the team with 4 assists and 2 blocks on the night.
