Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team hosted the Chowan University Hawks this afternoon in their first conference matchup of the season. The Hawks got off to a hot start, leading the Lions by 14 at the half and held onto the lead the rest of the way taking home a 70-51 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-4 on the season.
In the first quarter of play, the Lions were 1-7 from the field and 3-5 from the free throw line. Although the Lions offense wasn't clicking yet, they held the Hawks to 26% shooting in the first and trialed 13-8 after the first.
The Lions shots started falling in the 2nd quarter, connecting on 5-12 from the field (42%) and 2-2 from the foul line. The Hawks would push their lead to as much as 19 points in the quarter and would lead 32-18 at the break.
After half, the Hawks continued to control the pace of the game. The Lions would get within 12 points of the lead, 37-25 on a three pointer by
Naomi Roberts and would shoot 60% from the field in the quarter. The Hawks, however, would have an answer and push their lead to back over 20 points. At the end of the third, Chowan led, 54-35.
In the final quarter of play, the Lions were 4-13 from the field and 7-8 from the charity stripe. The Hawks would lead by as much as 21 points in the quarter and would take home a 70-51 win.
Abby Crawford led the way with 22 points on the night, 19 of which coming in the 2nd half.
Naomi Roberts led the team in rebounds with 8.
