Lions Down Converse 89-74!

Box Score Spartanburg, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team traveled to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkyries in conference action. The two teams were evenly matched early on, but the Lions used a strong second half to earn a dominant 89-74 victory.

Tavarus Webb got the scoring started early for the Lions, draining a three to give Emmanuel the first points of the game. The Valkyries would respond well to take a 15-10 lead, extending their lead to 21-13 with 13:05 to play in the half. The Lions would respond with a 11-2 run to take the lead, 24-23 on a three from Chris Dees with 8:08 to go in the half. The Lions would push their lead to as much as seven points in the half, 37-30 and would hold a 40-35 lead at the break.

After the half, the Lions continued to control the pace of the game with Kendall Latney scoring two early buckets to give the Lions a 43-37 lead. A pull up from Chris Dees with 18:29 to play pushed the Lions lead to 11 points, 48-37. The Valkyries would get within a point of the lead, 60-59 with 12:56 to play, but the Lions answered back with a 11-2 run to make it 71-61 with 9:26 to play. Late in the game, the Lions would lead by as much as 18 points and would wind up taking home a 89-74 victory.

Tavarus Webb led the way with 24 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds while Chris Dees had a strong night shooting with 19 points and 8 boards. Kendall Latney added 18 points on the night.
