Box Score Spartanburg, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team traveled to Spartanburg, SC today to take on the Converse Valkyries in Conference Carolinas action. The match was a competitive one, with both teams making key plays. The Lions took set one, 25-18 but Converse bounced back to win set two, 25-22. The Lions would take the final two sets, 25-17, 25-7. With the win, the Lions improve to 20-9 on the season, 16-1 in conference.
In set one, the two teams went back and forth with multiple ties and lead changes. After tying the set at 14-14 on a kill by
Jocelyn Martin, the Lions took the lead for good pushing their lead to 20-14 on a 7-0 run. The Lions held onto take the set, 25-18. In the set, the Lions had 12 kills, 5 blocks, and 4 aces.
The second set was much like the first, with both teams making plays early. Mid way through the set, Converse pulled away 14-11, but the Lions answered back to tie things at 15 all. The Lions then pulled away to go up by 2, 19-17 on a kill by Elie Jackson. The Valkyries tied things at 20-20 and controlled the set the rest of the way to take it, 25-22.
In the third set, the Lions took an early 4-0 lead. The Valkyries would bring the set to within two, 6-4 but the Lions would push their lead to 15-6 on a kill by Jackson. The Lions had 17 kills an ace and a block in the set. The Valkyries would get to within five points of the lead, 19-14, but the Lions would finish out the set strong to take it 25-17.
The fourth set began competitively, with the teams trading points. The Lions took a 7-4 lead on a kill by Jackson, but the Valkyries responded to tie things at 7. Converse would take a 10-8 lead. Converse tied the set at 13-13, but the Lions would quickly retake the lead on a kill by
Alaina Emminger. A 3-0 run would push the Lions lead out to 17-13 and would hold onto the lead the rest of the way to win the set 25-17 and the game, 3-1.
Overall, the Lions had 58 kills, 57 assists, 8 aces, 7 blocks, and 71 digs.
Ellie Jackson led the way with 16 kills. 4 aces, and 25 digs.
Isabel Miller had 28 assists, with
Sami Gambill adding 26.
Brianna Bigelow led the Lions with 2 blocks, while
Emily Hanson and
Jocelyn Martin had 1.5 a piece.
Next up the Lions will host Erskine to close out the season on Tuesday at 7PM.
