Bristol, TN – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Bristol, TN to face King University in conference action. The Tornado got off to a strong start leading the Lions 34-23 at the break. Halftime adjustments helped the Lions in the second half, as they mounted a comeback, getting to within six points of the lead. But the Tornado would hold onto win it, 63-57. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-5 on the season, 1-2 in conference play.
The Tornado jumped out of the gate with a 7-0 run. The Lions would respond to get within a point of the lead, 13-12, on a made three-pointer by
Abby Crawford. The Lions were 7-12 from the field (58%) in the quarter, going 2-3 from beyond the arc. The Tornado would finish the quarter outscoring the Lions 7-4 to lead 20-16 after the first.
In the second quarter, King continued to control the pace of the game, starting the quarter on a 6-1 run. The Lions were 7-8 from the foul line in the quarter and trailed the Tornado 34 -23 at the break.
The third quarter was a defensive battle, with the Lions holding the Tornado to 11 points. The Lions shot 5-11 from the field and connected on 50% of their three-point attempts. After the third, the Tornado led by nine, 45-36.
In the final quarter of play, the Lions continued their comeback. Emmanuel shot 47% from the field (8-17) and made 2-4 from beyond the arc. The Lions would get within six points of the lead, but the Tornado would hold on to take a 63-57 win.
Abby Crawford led the Lions with 21 points, while
Naomi Roberts contributed 15, going 3-4 from three-point range.
Maddie Futch led the Lions with 7 rebounds and
Addie Penick had 4 assists on the day.
