FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – Following an overtime victory over SCAD Savannah last weekend, the Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team was ready to make a statement today against Mars Hill. The Lions wasted no time getting on the scoreboard early and often, defeating Mars Hill 20-2. With the win, Emmanuel improves to 2-0 on the early season.
Mikaela Austin got the Lions on the scoreboard first with a goal at 12:13 assisted by
Kristie Fisher to make the score 1-0 Emmanuel.
Paige Murphy picked up where she left off last weekend, scoring at the 11:57 mark in the first, assisted by
Lauren Kuschel to make it 2-0.
Meghan Jennings got into the action next, assisted by
Paige Murphy with a goal at 9:29 to make it 3-0.
Paige Murphy added her second goal of the day with 6:55 remaining in the period, assisted by
Kristie Fisher to make the score 4-0.
Kristie Fisher added onto the lead scoring with 3:26 remaining in the period. With two minutes to play in the period,
Lauren Kuschel scored an unassisted goal and
Paige Murphy tacked on her third of the day, assisted by
Kristie Fisher, to make the score 8-0 Lions after the first.
In the second period,
Paige Murphy stayed on the attack, scoring at the 12:13 mark to bring the score to 9-0 Lions.
Lauren Kuschel added her third goal of the day with 9:33 remaining, to bring the score to 10-0. With 5 minutes to play in the 2
nd, Murphy would score again to make it 11-0 Lions. Kuschel would add on another shortly after, with 3:44 to play, to give the Lions a 12-0 lead, and Murphy would follow that up with another goal at the 2:05 mark to make it 13-1 Lions. The Mars Hill Lions got their first goal of the game with 40 seconds remaining in the 2
nd, to bring the score to 13-1 Emmanuel.
In the third, Mars Hill added on another goal to make it 13-2, but the Emmanuel Lions responded. Austin struck first for Emmanuel, assisted by Murphy with 12:45 to play in the third making the score 14-2 Emmanuel. Murphy stayed hot with a goal at 9:23 assisted by Kuschel to take a 15-2 lead. Kuschel would go onto score the next two for Emmanuel, at 8:22 and 6:41, to make the score 17-2 Emmanuel.
Ashley Mercker would get in on the action with 3:42 to play in the 3
rd, assisted by Murphy to bring the score to 18-2 Lions.
In the fourth, Kuschel would start things off for Emmanuel with her 7
th goal of the day, assisted by Meghan Williams, to take a 19-2 lead with 10:01 to play.
Kristie Fisher would add a final goal for Emmanuel at the 8:42 mark, to give Emmanuel a 20-2 victory.
Lauren Kuschel and
Paige Murphy led the Lions with seven goals apiece.
Next up, the Lions will host Shorter University on Wednesday at 6PM.
