FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA- The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse team hosted Shorter this afternoon, looking to keep their win streak alive. The Lions got off to a quick start and controlled the pace the whole game, defeating the Hawks 20-8.
Paige Murphy picked up where she left off scoring with 11:56 to play in the first to make it 1-0 Lions.
Mikaela Austin got in on the action at the 9:37 mark, assisted by Murphy to make it 2-0 Lions. Shorter scored a goal in the eighth minute to cut the Lions lead to one, but Emmanuel responded quickly with a goal by
Lauren Kuschel to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. Murphy added another for the Lions with 7 minutes to go in the 1
st, assisted by Kuschel, to give the Lions a 4-1 lead. Kuschel scored a second time in the 5
th minute to make it 5-1. Murphy added her third goal of the day at the 4:11 mark, assisted by Kuschel to make it 6-1 Emmanuel.
In the second, Shorter started things off with a goal to cut the lead to 6-2, but Murphy answered with back-to-back goals in the 12
th minute of the 2
nd, the second assisted by
Kristie Fisher, to make it 8-2 Lions. Shorter would add a goal in the 9
th minute to make it 8-3,
Kristie Fisher would score once at 9:27, assisted by Murphy and again at 8:44, assisted by Kuschel to make it 10-3 Emmanuel. Shorter would get one back to make it 10-4, but Murphy would respond with another goal at 4:23, assisted by
Meghan Jennings to make it 11-4. Shorter made it 11-5 with a goal with 45 seconds to play in the 2
nd period, but Kuschel would respond with a goal with 3 seconds left to give the Lions a 12-5 lead.
In the third, Murphy scored her seventh of the day at 14:01 assisted by Kuschel to make it 13-5. Austin added another goal for Emmanuel with 8:48 to play in the third, assisted by Fisher to make it 14-5. Fisher scored with 8:05 to play in the third, assisted by Kuschel to make it 15-5. Shorter added a goal with 6 minutes to go to make it 15-6. Austin would respond with another goal, assisted by Fisher with 3 minutes to play to give the Lions a 16-6 lead. Jennings would add onto the Lions lead, with a goal with 53 seconds to play in the 3
rd, 17-6 Lions.
In the fourth, Shorter started things off with a goal in the 13
th minute to make it 18-7. They added another in the 11
th minute to make the score 17-8. Murphy would score her eighth goal of the afternoon with 6:20 to play to give the Lions a 18-8 lead. Austin would finish the night off with two more goals, one assisted by Murphy, to give the Lions a 20-8 victory.
Paige Murphy led the way with eight goals and three assists, while
Mikaela Austin contributed five goals. Lauren Kushel added five assists and three goals to the stat line.
