DAHLONEGA, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team closed out play in the Captain D's Surf & Turf Classic with a second game against West Georgia. Emmanuel had a lead early, but West Georgia scored seven runs in the 5
th inning and took the win, 10-8. With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-6 on the season.
Ciara Passmore started things off for the Lions with a walk, advancing to second on a ground out by
Ellee Varner. Passmore advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by
Alyssa Adams, to make it 1-0 Emmanuel.
West Georgia took the lead in the top of the 2
nd, scoring 2 runs on 1 hit, making it 2-1.
In the bottom of the 4
th, the Lions got back on the board.
Jaryn Gibson reached on a throwing error, advancing to second on a wild pitch.
Lexi Jordan walked, and both runners scored on a double by
Gabby Buffington to give the Lions a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the 5
th the Wolves scored 7 runs on 3 hits and 1 error, leaving 3 on base to take a 9-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 6
th inning, Emmanuel answered back.
Lexi Jordan got things started with a double down the right field line and Buffington hit a homerun to clear the bases and make it 9-5, West Georgia.
The Wolves added a run on two hits, leaving three on base to make the score 10-5 in the middle of the 7
th. Emmanuel had an answer in the bottom of the 7
th. Varner started things off with a walk, and Gibson reached on a fielder's choice, with Varner out at second.
Abby Rocco singled down to left to advance Gibson to second. Jordan reached on an error and advanced to second, scoring Gibson and Rocco to make the score 10-7.
Aggie Bennett walked, and Jordan advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Isabel Harrison singled to score Jordan, to make it 10-8 West Georgia, but she would be picked off at first to end the inning and the game.
At the plate,
Gabby Buffington led the way going 2-3 with a double and a homerun.
On the mound.
Haley Mullins got the start, pitching 4 innings. She faced 23 batters and gave up 6 runs (3 earned) on five hits and five walks.
Kaitlyn Pickens relieved her and faced just two batters, giving up 2 runs.
Macy Kelley finished off the game for the Lions, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 3-6 on the season. They'll be back in action on Tuesday at 1PM at Limestone.
