YOUNG HARRIS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Young Harris to face the Mountain Lions in Conference Carolinas action. Emmanuel got off to a fast start and controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way, taking the win, 61-49! With the win, Emmanuel sits at 16-8 overall, 12-4 in Conference play.
The first quarter was close at the start, but a three pointer by
Abby Crawford with 5:54 to play gave the Lions the separation they needed and a 11-6 lead. The Lions would end the quarter on a 13-4 run to take a 23-10 lead going into the second.
The second quarter was a defensive battle, with the Lions going 2-13 from the field.
Tyasia Freeman scored scored all of the Lions points in the quarter on two clutch jumpers that helped the Lions maintain their lead. At the half, the Lions led by nine, 27-18.
In the third quarter, the Mountain Lions would bring the game to within four points, 30-26, but key free throws by
Maddie Futch and a layup by
Sydney Wyatt would help the Lions extend their lead back up to eight points. The Lions would end the quarter on a 10-4 run and lead Young Harris by 12, 44-32 after three.
In the fourth, the Mountain Lions would get within nine points of the lead , trailing 56-47 with 1:50 to play, but the Lions would close out the game on a 5-2 run to bring home a win on the road, 61-49.
Two Lions had double-doubles on the evening, with
Sydney Wyatt leading the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Tyasia Freeman contributed 14 points and 15 rebounds in the contest.
Abby Crawford added 11 points and 3 rebounds.
