Central, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team traveled to Central, SC for their final game of the regular season against the Southern Wesleyan Warriors. It was a historic night for the Lions, as senior
KJ Jones II became just the 13
th collegiate basketball player EVER to hit the 3,000-career point milestone. The Lions controlled the pace of the game early and defeated the Warriors, 80-51. With the win, the Lions improve to 24-5 overall and 16-2 in conference play.
The Warriors kept things close to start the first half, but Emmanuel would go on a 21-0 run to make it 33-8 with 4:45 to play in the half. The Lions shot 42.8% in the first half, connecting on 12-14 from the foul line. At the half, the Lions led 40-21.
In the second half, the Lions continued to click offensively. Jones hit his 3,000
th point sinking a free throw with 7:12 to play. The Lions led by as much as 29 in the half on a three-pointer by
Jasper Gibson with 6:36 to play to give the Lions a 72-46 lead. The Lions were 15-29 from the field and 7-10 from the charity stripe. In the end, the Lions came away with a 28-point victory, 80-52.
KJ Jones II led the way for the Lions with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
Tavarus Webb added 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal.
Kendall Latney had a double-double on the night with 14 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Now the Lions will turn their sights to the Conference Carolinas tournament where they look to make some noise and repeat as Champions. Their first game will be on Saturday at the Jerry Richardson Arena on the campus of Wofford University.
