SAVANNAH, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse season got underway today in Savannah, GA as the Lady Lions played SCAD-Savannah. The Lions got the win in a overtime thriller, 13-12 to start the season in the win column, 1-0.
SCAD got things started in the first period with two goals early to take a 2-0 lead. Emmanuel's
Mikaela Austin responded early in the 2
nd period with a goal at 13:25, to make the score 2-1 in favor of SCAD. A mere twenty seconds later,
Paige Murphy tied things up for the Lions, 2-2. SCAD would respond with two more goals, taking a 4-2 lead before Emmanuel's Kristie Fischer scored at 4:27 to bring the game within one, 4-3. SCAD would score once more to take a 5-3 lead going into the third period.
In the third,
Paige Murphy would start things off for the Lions with a goal at 14:17, assisted by
Meghan Jennings making it 5-4 SCAD. The Bees would make it 6-4 before Murphy would answer back with 5:34 to play in the 3
rd, assisted by
Lauren Kuschel to make it 6-5. SCAD would respond with 4 more goals to make the score, 10-5.
Mikaela Austin would score with three seconds remaining in the period to make it 10-6 in favor of SCAD.
In the final period, the Lions came out strong offensively with
Lauren Kuschel scoring to make it 10-7 with 14:40 to play.
Paige Murphy added onto the Lions stat sheet with a goal at 13:16 to make it 10-8, and
Mikaela Austin's scored with 11:49 to play to make it 10-9. The Bees scored to make it 11-9, but the Lions weren't finished. Another goal for Murphy would bring the Lions within one, and
Lauren Kuschel would tie things up at 11 with a goal at 9:01.
Paige Murphy would give the Lions their first lead of the game with 2:36 to play. The Bees would respond to tie things up with 48 seconds left in regulation, 12-12.
With 1:42 to play in the "fifth" period, Kuschel scored to give the Lions a 13-12 win!
Paige Murphy led the way for the Lions with six goals, while
Lauren Kuschel and
Mikaela Austin added three apiece.
Madison Pena led the team with 4 ground balls, with
Skyler Heard and
Mikaela Austin adding 3 apiece.
