Tigerville, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Tigerville, SC to take on the University of North Greenville in Conference Carolinas play this afternoon. The Crusaders got off to a quick start, taking a 3-1 victory in game one. They followed that up with a 7-2 victory in game two to take the series, 2-0. With the losses, the Lions fall to 11-14 on the season overall, 2-2 in conference action.
GAME ONE –
Game one was a pitcher's duel, with neither team getting on the board until the 3
rd inning. The Crusaders struck first, scoring one run on one hit in the bottom of the 3
rd, to go up 1-0.
North Greenville added to their lead in the bottom of the 5
th, scoring one run on two hits to take a 2-0 lead.
The Crusaders tacked on another run in the 6
th on three hits and an error to make it 3-0.
The Lions responded in the top of the 7
th with a run of their own.
Isabel Harrison got things started with a single to left center.
Aggie Bennett followed that up with a single down the right field line to advance Harrison to third.
Kinsley Goolsby kept things going with a single to score Harrison, but a strike out ended the inning, and the Crusaders took game one, 3-1.
At the plate,
Lexi Jordan and
Isabel Harrison were 2-3.
On the mound,
Maddie Edwards got the nod pitching 6 innings. She gave up 3 runs on 8 hits and struck out a batter.
GAME TWO –
The Crusaders got on the board first in game one with a run on one hit in the bottom of the first.
The Lions answered back in the top of the 2
nd.
Kinsley Goolsby got on base with a walk.
Mandy Rhinehart (pinch runner for Goolsby) stole second, and advanced to third on a ground-out.
Alyssa Adams singled up the middle to score Rhinehart and tie the game at 1-1.
The Lions took the lead in the top of the 4
th.
Isabel Harrison got things started with a single to center and stole second.
Aggie Bennett followed that up with a single up the middle to score Harrison and give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
The Crusaders answered back in a big way in the bottom of the 4
th, scoring 6 runs on 3 hits to take a 7-2 lead, which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Gabby Buffington went 2-4.
On the mound,
Macy Kelley got the start pitching 3 innings and giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 2 hits. She walked four batters.
Kaitlyn Pickens relieved her to face a batter, giving up one run and walking a batter.
Haley Mullins came in next, and faced three batters, giving up two runs and walking three batters.
Isabel Harrison closed out the game for the Lions, pitching three innings and giving up two hits.
