Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team hosted Talladega College tonight in non-conference action. The Lions got off to a quick start and kept the momentum throughout the match, winning in three sets, 25-10, 25-21, 25-17. With the win, the Lions improve to 7-14 on the season.
In the first set, the Lions got off to a fast start, taking a 7-2 lad. The Tornadoes would make it 10-6, before the Lions would go on a 9-0 run to make it 19-6. The Lions would finish out the set on a 4-0 run to take the set, 21-10.
The Tornadoes started out strong in set two. Talladega got out to an early 4-1 lead before Emmanuel responded. The Lions tied things up at 9-9 after forcing an attack error, then went on a 3-0 run to take a 12-10 lead. The Tornadoes would respond with a run of their own to go up 14-12. The set saw several ties and lead changes, but a 5-0 run by the Lions would be the difference and the Lions closed out the set to win 25-21.
The third set was back and forth to start. With the two teams tied at 5-5, the Lions pulled away with a 4-0 run, highlighted by two kills by
Eli Zdonek. A second 4-0 run for the Lions would make it 15-8, Lions. The Lions would extend their lead to as much as 9 points, taking the set 25-17.
Overall, the Lions had 37 kills, 5 aces. 6 blocks, 33 assists, and 29 digs.
Eli Zdonek led the way with 12 kills, with
Arturo Diaz-Dube contributing 9.
Abdallah Roshdy and
Lucas Nieves each tallied two service aces on the night, with Roshdy and
Greg Bodus leading the team in blocks with 3 a piece. Roshdy had 31 of the team's 33 assists. Nick Eichenberger led the team with 9 digs on the night.
Next up the Lions will travel to Banner Elk, NC to take on Lees McRae on Friday at 7PM.
