Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team hosted Barton College today in Conference Carolinas action. The Bulldogs got off to a strong start, scoring 6 goals in the first period, but the Lions responded well. Although the Lions battled back, the Bulldogs came away with a 16-11 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-10 on the season.
In the first period, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Lions however, battled back in the 2
nd to make things interesting.
Luke Hildebrandt scored the first goal for the Lions, with 10:23 to play in the 2
nd period, assisted by
Ryley Dowswell to make it 6-1, Barton.
Jared Weiss followed that up with a goal in the 8
th minute, assisted by Hildebrandt, to cut the Bulldog lead to 6-2. The Bulldogs scored their first goal of the period with 8:45 to play to go up 7-2, but
Griffin Gibson-Thomas responded with a goal with 6:00 to play in the 2
nd, assisted by Hildebrandt to make it 7-3. Barton grabbed the next two goals to go up 9-3, but
Tanner Park closed out the 2
nd with a goal with 1:03 to play, to make it 9-4.
In the third, Hildebrandt got the scoring started for the Lions with a goal with 13:53 to play, to cut the Bulldog lead to 4, 9-5. Barton scored the next two to make the score 11-5, but Hildebrandt responded with 10:03 to play in the 3
rd with a goal assisted by Gibson-Thomas to make it 11-6. Barton scored the next two goals to go up 13-6, but Weiss netted a goal with 1:23 to play in the period to make it 13-7.
The Lions opened up the fourth period with two goals in a row.
Alan Quaid kept the scoring going with a goal with 8:54 to play, assisted by
Kyle Lloyd to make the score 13-8, Barton.
Ryley Dowswell scored with 8:01 on the clock, assisted by Weiss to make it 13-9. Barton netted a goal with 6 minutes to play to go up 14-9, but
Ryley Dowswell grabbed his second goal of the day with 5:18 to play, to make it 14-10. Barton scored the next two to go up 16-10, but the Lions closed the game out with a goal by Weiss with 14 seconds to play, assisted by Hildebrandt, to make the final score 16-11, Barton.
Luke Hildebrandt and
Jared Weiss each scored 3 goals for the Lions today, with Hildebrandt leading the team in assists with 3.
Next up, the Lions will face Belmont Abbey on Wednesday at 4PM.
