Lions Defeat North Greenville in Thriller 69-64!

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team began postseason play today in the second round of the Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Basketball Championship, hosting North Greenville University. The game was as advertised with multiple ties and lead changes, but the home team ultimately prevailed, 69-64 to advance to the quarterfinals! With the win, the Lions improve to 17-10 overall, 12-6 in conference play. 
 
In the first quarter, the Lions jumped out to an early 13-2 lead. Emmanuel was 8-21 from the field and 4-12 from beyond the arc. The Crusaders would come back within five points to close out the quarter trailing 20-15. 
 
In the second, the Crusaders would get within one point, 25-24 but the Lions would go on a 9-0 run, highlighted by two jumpers by Naomi Roberts to give the Lions a ten-point lead, 34-24. The Crusaders would close out the half on a 7-1 run to make it 35-31, Lions at the break. 
 
Early in the third, the Crusaders took their first lead of the game at 38-37. The two teams would trade buckets and the lead throughout the quarter, with seven ties and eight lead changes. The difference came at the foul line, where the Lions were 9-11 in the quarter. Lizzie Teasley closed out the quarter from the line, sinking two shots to give the Lions a 53-50 lead.
 
In the fourth, the teams continued to battle with multiple ties and lead changes. The Lions shot 42% from the field (5-12) and 2-6 from three. After trailing the Crusaders by as much as three points in the quarter, the Lions took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Abby Crawford that put Emmanuel up 66-64 with 2:15 to play. The Lions would close out the game at the foul line with Tyasia Freeman sinking both shots to give the Lions the 69-64 win. 
 
Both Lion seniors contributed a double-double on the night, with Sydney Wyatt leading with 23 points/11rebounds and 4 assists and Tyasia Freeman adding 12 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Crawford added 12 points on the night. 
 
 
With the win, the Lions advance to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Tournament which will be hosted at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on the campus of Wofford University on March 8th
